For over three years, our sisters in Quebec, aged between 81 and 94, have been fighting together with the residents of the Résidence for elderly people Mont-Carmel in Montreal against the transformation of the establishment into a multi-generational rental building and against property speculation, while demanding that the rights of the elderly be recognised and respected in legislation.

A visit from Louise Forestier, a great lady of Quebecois song, encouraged and motivated the residents. ‘It gives you courage to see you go’, exclaimed Louise Forestier from the outset during her meeting with the residents of Mont-Carmel on 21 May. In the interviews she gave on the occasion of the release of her latest album, “Vieille Corneille”, she mentioned that she had been inspired by the struggle of the Mont-Carmel residents when writing the text of one of the songs entitled “Ce n’est pas demain”.

Ms Forestier underlined the importance of this fight. ‘You are an example for a whole generation. You are an incredible example of intelligence, courage and sensitivity.’  ‘I am so happy that you are my brothers and sisters. ‘What touches me about you is the struggle that unites you.’ ‘Courage raises hope, you convey the beauty of struggle.’
