Still marching to transform the world !

Thirty years after the ‘Bread and Roses’ women's march organised in 1995 by the Fédération des femmes du Québec against poverty and violence against women, and twenty-five years after the World March of Women in 2000, thousands of women converged on 18 October at the Quebec National Assembly for the 6th edition of the World March, this time on the initiative of the Quebec Coordination of the World March of Women. The theme of this latest edition was "Still marching to change the world."

For each of us, this great day of collective mobilisation was deeply meaningful because the impoverishment of women and the violence perpetrated against them, as well as the current environmental crisis, are crucial issues that concern us today and on which urgent action is needed. Mobilising together is an act of resistance and hope. The participation of three of us (Nicole, Marie-Paule and Suzanne) also provided an opportunity for an emotional reunion with former colleagues and fellow activists and allies in our current struggle at the Mont-Carmel seniors’ residence.

For us, as helpers ‘for the whole universe’, it was a day of great solidarity with women around the world. It was also a joy to see the impressive presence of young women affirming their hope for a society which will be more just, more humane, greener, more feminist, more inclusive, more supportive…
