A committed group with a rich past

The China-India group is the most recent Entity  in the Society of the Helpers of the Souls in Purgatory , it was created in 2011. However, it has a rich history, as the presence of Sisters in Asia dates back to the 19th century. The first Helpers set out for China in 1867

Until 1949, China was one of the most significant centres of the congregation.
The arrival of Helpers sisters  in India, on the other hand, is more recent. A community belonging to  the Central European entity was established in Bārāsat ( West Bengal)in 1995, followed by two other communities , in Kolkata (former Calcutta) and Bolpur Shantiniketan. In 2011, these three communities were merged with the communities of Taiwan and Hong Kong to create the China-India group.

The sisters are also attentive to various form of poverty in their neighbouring area – accompagning people in different ways- and coordinate a Center for Alternative Medicine and a Tuition Center in a rural area of West Bengal, 250km away from Barasat. 3.
